Detail of the wall-painting found at the Prehistoric city of Akrotiri into the house named Xeste 3  “Lustral basin” ,ground floor 3a.

The upper zone of the wall-painting is occupied by a broad band. The  first figure from the left advanceds towards at the altar (there is on the east wall) proffering in her left hand a necklace of rock crystal beads.

The next figure  is shown entirely in profile,sitting on a small knoll and slightly bent over.Her left arm is bent in such a way that her hand supports her head. The disproportionately long right arm is brought across the body and ends at her left foot,the big toe of which is injured and bleeding.

Their rich Minoan garments,elaborate coiffures and ornate jewellery of precious metals and rare gems not only bespeak the festive character of the scene but also reveal the status of these women in Theran society.

Materials and technique:  The wall-painting is made of handmade lime plaster canvas which is glued on enhanced double seawood. The technique used is the ancient fresco with the original earth colours.The missing pieces of the original are being attributed with the same plaster used for the restoration of the originals.The special finishing applied makes the wall-painting resistant to dust and moisture as well as it ensures longevity without further maintenance,  either when the wall-painting is hanged on the wall or built in the wall.
