The eruption destroyed Thira – “Pompeii of the Aegean”. Through the multitude of findings excavated are the amazingly crafted wallpaintings.
Wallpaintings are frescos that were manufactured as the plaster was wet, so it requires special skill and swiftness.

''Bare-breasted female figure''

The figure is shown bending forward at an angle of 70*, so that her inordinately large breast is exposed and hangs down from the decolletage of her bodice. This Lady's feet protrude from beneath her Minoan style skirt. She has rich ,flowing back tresses and a red streak on the cheek. She wears gold ear-ring and a bracelet on her left arm. The bare- breasted figure is undoubtely shown engaged in some ritual act.

The Young fisherman with his catch is one of the frescoes found in Akrotiri. It was painted in 1650 BC. Archaeologists recovered this fresco in the Cyclades on the volcanic island of Santorini. This well preserved painting shows a nude male fisherman holding his abundant catch in his hands.
